    Suicide - Supermodel @ 20

Was tragic supermodel, 20, who threw herself from her ninth floor New York apartment part of a sinister cult?

The suicide of Ruslana Korshunova almost three years ago stunned the world. A beautiful, seemingly happy supermodel, at the peak of her career, the 20-year-old had everything to live for.
But on June 28 2008, the young beauty tragically leapt to her death from a building site adjacent to her 9th floor New York apartment.
She had no history of depression, and there was no trace of alcohol or drugs in her body. In short, the reasons that she took her own life remain a mystery.
Now a filmmaker claims that many clues point to a controversial organisation known as Rose of the World.

In his research for a documentary into the Kazakhstan-born model's suicide, Peter Pomerantsev found many references to the Moscow-based group, which describes itself as 'training for personality development'.
Writing about his experiences in Newsweek, he told how he discovered that a close friend of Ruslana, Anastasia Drozdova, also committed suicide, in 2009 in Kiev, under similar circumstances.

A religious education teacher has been struck off indefinitely after admitting to a sordid sex encounter with a pupil.
Erin La Porte, who taught RE at Princes Risborough School, Bucks, was struck off indefinitely by the General Teaching Council after a panel heard she had slept with the youngster during her year-long tenure.
La Porte confessed to a colleague during a trip to Vietnam that she had slept with the youngster - known only as 'Pupil A' ' in July 2007.
Upon their return, her shocked teacher reported her to Pete Rowe, head of the school.
Police were called to investigate, but no action was taken against the teacher, who was 26 at the time.
The panel warned she might repeat her behaviour if she was allowed to continue teaching.
Princes Risborough head Pete Rowe has said he was satisfied with the outcome.
A committee ruling said: 'This was a serious instance of unacceptable professional conduct where a lesser sanction is not appropriate.
'The conduct is fundamentally incompatible with Ms La Porte continuing to be a registered teacher.
'Given the lack of insight demonstrated by Ms La Porte, the committee is not satisfied that she does not pose a significant risk of repeating the behaviour.'

Can't Breathe but I'm in it

'I can't breathe, but I'm in it': Marie Osmond remarries her first husband... wearing the same dress as 29 years ago

    • Singer ties the knot in Las Vegas ceremony
    • Day marks the birthdays of her late mother and son
For Marie Osmond it was a case of something old, not something new, as she walked down the aisle for the second time with Steve Craig today.
For not only was the 51-year-old actress remarrying her first husband - she had also managed to squeeze herself into the very dress she wore 29 years ago.
And while she said it felt like the fitting thing to do, the Hollywood star confessed it was perhaps not the most comfortable to wear.
    Marie Osmond
Here comes the bride... again: Marie Osmond remarried her first husband Steve Craig today in Las Vegas
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Marie revealed: 'I can't breathe, but I'm in it.'
First time round: Marie and Steve back in 1982 when they first got hitched

Marie also told how she had got a new dress designed, but it didn't feel right when she saw the finished product.
'I had a dress all designed [for this wedding] and when it showed up it was not [right],' she told Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart in an interview to be aired tomorrow.
'I was so sad, I was actually kind of in tears,' she recalled, adding: 'I was cleaning out my garage and all of a sudden this box showed up in this pile of stuff … and it was this dress and it was five days ago.
'I'm not kidding. Isn't that crazy?'
Of course she might not have been able to have got into her old dress at all if it wasn't for her dramatic weight loss over recent years.
The singer, a spokeswoman for the portion-controlled diet meals NutriSystem, dropped from a U.S. size 12/14 (British size 16/18) to a size 2/4 (British size 6/8) in four months in late 2007 after losing 45lbs.
Marie, who got married in a Las Vegas ceremony, described today as 'probably the most beautiful day I have had in I don't remember [how long]'.
It was a specially selected date to coincide with the birthday of her late mother and son Michael Bryan, who committed suicide aged 19 last year.

She also revealed how it was her 28-year-old son Stephen - her only child with Craig - who helped get them back together.
'It was our son who got us to kind of be back together, but [my husband] has been there for me and he's just my best friend, you know, and loves my kids,' she said.
Marie first married former semi-pro basketball player Steve in 1982 with the marriage lasting three years.

In 1986 she walked down the aisle for the second time with Brian Blosil.
They went on to have two children together - Rachel and Matthew - as well as adopting five children, including Michael who killed himself last year by jumping from the eighth floor of his apartment building in Los Angeles.

Opening up about the wedding, Marie said: 'We chose this day to kind of have Michael here as well.
'It's his birthday, and my mom's birthday, and I don't know, I just kind of feel like she's been on the other side just kind of making this thing happen.'
Marie says she feels complete now, adding: 'Some things I guess were just always meant to be, and time makes you grow up and appreciate things.
    'Life is good, you know?
'Everything has been perfect and we just both can't believe it. We're so happy.'
Steve was said to be a huge support to Marie following Michael's tragic death.
The teenager left a suicide note, explaining he intended to end his life after a lengthy battle with severe depression.
In 2007, aged 16, he entered a rehab facility with Marie praising him at the time for his 'courage' in facing his issues.
In the same year Marie and Blosil announced they were divorcing after 21 years of marriage.

    Long Hair Care Tips

Caring for long hair takes a lot more time compared to caring for short hair or hair of normal length. Just washing and drying long hair can be quite a task in itself. Below are some tips on managing long hair.
    Long Hair Care Tips
Avoid sleeping with tightly braided hair or hair in a tight ponytail. The stress can cause breakage and/or hair loss.
When your hair is braided, make sure that it is not too tight or it could cause breakage and/or hair loss.
If your hair is braided or you have a ponytail, use a specially treated band or scrunchie which will prevent breakage of your hair, limit your use of clips, bows, and untreated bands.
Even if you plan on growing your hair out further you should trim your hair once every 3 months, if not split ends will cause your hair to break off and your hair will begin to lose it's beauty, if you plan on just maintaining your length, a trim once every month and a half to two months should suffice.
Don't use a brush to detangle your hair, this will stretch your hair and may cause your hair to break off. Instead use your fingers, a pick, or a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair.
When detangling your hair work your way from the tips of your hair up to the hair roots. Work on detangling one section of your hair at a time and go in a downward direction.
Be gentle when detangling, pulling down on your hair too hard will cause breakage.
If you detangle your hair before washing it, it'll be easier to dry and style as well as decrease the knots and tangles after you are done washing your hair.
Don't rub your hair dry with a towell, instead blot the water out of your hair, when you rub, it'll cause your hair to tangle.
Hair can get caught on cotton pillow cases and break when you are sleeping especially if you toss and turn a lot when you sleep. Using a satin or silk pillowcase where your hair will make it so that hair will slide across the pillowcase without getting caught. Another tactic to prevent breakage is to put your hair up in a ponytail on the top of your head with a scrunchie or specially treated band (that prevents breakage).
An alternative to the silk pillowcase is to wear a satin or silk scarf over your hair before your sleep to prevent breakage.
Brushing your hair is important because it spreads the the hair oils out across the length of your hair. Use long strokes starting from the roots of your hair when brushing and stroke your hand over your hair after you are done brushing to get rid of static.

    Eating Disorder Awareness Week

Beauty never looked so ugly. It’s eating disorder awareness week and to help educate people, one college student created a shocking life-sized replica of Barbie. Pretty is the last word that comes to mind when you see the doll — pretty scary is more like it.  It was built by college student Galia Slayen, who has struggled with an eating disorder. The creation is 6 feet tall with a 39-inch bust, 18-inch waist and 33-inch hips.  Slayen hopes showing the unnatural proportions of the doll will help raise awareness of the unrealistic expectations of beauty.
Slayen suffered from anorexia as a high school cheerleader; and while she admits Barbie dolls alone weren’t directly responsible for her eating disorder, playing with the “perfect” doll through her childhood probably did not help. Women are constantly being bombarded with images of perfection and unrealistic body images. Barbie is one of the most popular toys in the world, and the question remains: is it setting our little girls up for issues?
    Body Dysmorphic Disorder
The procedures that people torture themselves with are endless; from Botox and Restylane to facelifts and beyond, it seems to some, no amount of nip and tuck will ever make them feel better. This phenomenon is called body dysmorphic disorder or BDD.
BDD is a serious condition where people obsess on a particular physical flaw. The doctors may say they are underweight, but ask an anorexic suffering from BDD and they can only see the fat.  People with BDD may not want to look in the mirror, they may use clothes and makeup to cover up their flaws, they often times seek plastic surgery, and yet they never seem to feel pretty. Why? It’s not just that these patients are thinking about their body, it’s the side of the brain they are using to think about their body.  Dr. Jamie Feusner, a UCLA psychiatrist, conducted new research on BDD using MRI brain scans.  The study concluded the BDD suffers used the left — more analytical side of their brain — than the control group when looking at pictures of a face. Whereas the right side of the brain is used for seeing the whole image in its entirety, the left side of the brain is used to pick things apart and scrutinize the details.
Is there a lesson to be learned in this for all of us with body image issues? Yes, the next time you catch yourself cursing a wrinkle or daydreaming about a smaller nose, remember that you are probably hyper-critiquing that body part. You shouldn’t look through a microscope to see the world, so why would you look through a microscope to see yourself?

    Bipolar Disorder

    Sinéad O’Connor
    Condition:
    Bipolar Disorder
Sinéad O’Connor rose to fame in the late ‘80s and early ’90s, due in part to her hit single “Nothing Compares 2 U.” But fame isn’t everything. O’Connor was plagued with thoughts of suicide, and after several therapists and hospital visits. She was finally diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

    What is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder used to be called ‘manic depression’. As the older name suggests, someone with bipolar disorder will have severe mood swings. These usually last several weeks or months and are far beyond what most of us experience. They are:
    Low or ‘depressive’
feelings of intense depression and despair
    High or ‘manic’
feelings of extreme happiness and despair
    Mixed
for example, depressed mood with the restlessness and overactivity of a manic episode

Without love and belongingness how can people achieve…
    • Esteem Needs – The esteem and respect of others and self-esteem and self-respect – a sense, therefore, of competence.
Without feelings of worth, competence and confidence, how can people reach the next level?
    • Cognitive Needs – Knowledge and understanding, curiosity, exploration, need for meaning and predictability.
If cognitive needs are not met or achieved…. This cannot be met:
    • Aesthetic Needs – Beauty – in art and nature – symmetry, balance, order, form.
So without feeling comfortable to explore the beauty of life and a sense of balance… this cannot be achieved…
    • Self Actualisation – Realizing your full potential, “becoming everything one is capable of becoming’ – to be the best that you can be. **Happiness**
